Hyd yn hyn, mae gyrfa Lowri wedi bod yn diffyniad o annibynnol. Wedi ei enni yn Sir Benfro nid yw stori Lowri yn un o lwyddiant dros nos ond stori o artist sydd gyda ffydd yn ei hun ac yn ei chaneuon.

O ganlyniad, dyw ei thaith gerddorol ddim bob tro wedi bod yn hawdd ond mae bob amser wedi bod yn ddiddorol. O ffynnon talent cynhenid a llais sy’n dal cynulleidfaoedd, mae wedi gweithio yn galed, gydag ychydig o gymorth gan deulu a ffrindiau , wrth gwrs – i wireddu ei breuddwyd o greu bywoliaeth o’r cerddoriaeth.  Mae balchder Lowri mewn bod yn Gymraeg , treftadaeth gerddorol gyfoethog ei mamwlad yn ysbrydoliaeth i berfformio. O ganlyniad mae hi bob amser wedi ysgrifennu a chanu yn yr iaith Gymraeg yn ogystal ag yn Saesneg. Fel y dywedodd un beirniad ‘Lowri Evans is a major talent in any language’ (Hot Press).

Gwnaeth Lowri sefydlu label ei hun ‘Shimi’ gyda ei phartner a gitarydd Lee Mason. Yn 2013, dechreuodd yr albwm ‘Corner of my eye’ cael ei chwarae ar BBC Radio 2 ac y sengl ei rhoi ar y rhestr chwarae ar BBC Radio Wales. Arweiniodd hyn at sesiwn ‘Under the apple tree’ gyda Bob Harris.

Erbyn hynny , roedd hi eisoes yn seren yng Nghymru , ei chaneuon yn cael ei chwarae yn rheolaidd ar BBC Radio Cymru , BBC Radio Wales a wedi gwneud llawer o ymddangosiadau ar sioeau teledu S4C megis ‘ Heno ‘, ‘ Bandit ‘, ‘ Nodyn ‘ a ‘Noson Lawen ‘ . Ym Mehefin 2014, cafodd ei chân ‘ Gadael y Gorffennol ‘ ei wneud yn ‘ Trac yr Wythnos’ ar BBC Radio Cymru , ac arhosodd ar y restr chwarae swyddogol yr orsaf am dri mis !

Mae Lowri wedi teithio yn yr Unol Daleithiau, yn perfformio yn Nashville, Chicago, Efrog Newydd ac yn y Gynghrair Gwerin yn Kansas City yn 2015. Mae hi wedi cadarnhau nifer o Ŵyliau am 2016 yn cynwys Underneath the Stars, Gŵyl Warwick, Bamfest, Gŵyl Tŷ Tredegar a Gŵyl Under the apple tree roots .

To date Lowri’s career has been the very definition of ‘independent’. Welsh-born, Welsh-speaking, Newport based Evans’ story has not been one of hype or hyperbole, overnight success or big record company intervention but the story of an artist whose faith in herself and her songs has never wavered. As a consequence her musical journey has not always been easy but it has always been interesting. From a wellspring of innate talent and a voice that holds audiences spellbound she has worked resolutely – with a little help from family and friends, of course – to realise her dream of making music for a living.

Integral to all she has done has been Lowri’s pride in being Welsh, her homeland’s rich musical heritage an inspiration and springboard into performing. As a result she has always written, sung and made records in the Welsh language as well as in English. As one critic commented, ‘Lowri Evans is a major talent in any language’ (Hot Press).

Honing her skills through gigging, writing and recording, Lowri set up her own label, Shimi: “Shimi was going to be the name of my college band in Newcastle where I was notorious for ‘shimmying’ in bars and clubs!” When, in 2013, Corner Of My Eye (‘one of the albums of this or any other year’ R2) began picking up airplay on Radio 2, was play listed on BBC Radio Wales and led to an ‘Under The Apple Tree Session’ with Bob Harris, it was the result of recommendations from music industry peers, of fans requesting tracks be played and venues finding audiences wanted her back. By then, she was already a star in Wales, her songs regularly aired on BBC Radio Cymru, BBC Radio Wales and she’d made many appearances on S4C TV shows such as ‘Heno’, ‘Bandit’, ‘Nodyn’ and ‘Noson Lawen’. In June 2014 her song ‘Gadael y gorffennol’ (‘Leaving The Past’) was immediately made ‘Track Of The Week’ on BBC Radio Cymru, residing on the station’s official play list for three months!

Tracks from this and her earlier records have proved a moveable feast, aired around the world while she herself has toured in the USA, appearing ‘live’ in 2014 on radio shows in Nashville, performing at the Folk Alliance in Kansas City in 2015 … leaving with lots of invitations to return. 2016 UK Festivals already include Underneath the Stars, Warwick Festival, Bamfest, Tredegar House Festival and Village Pump Festival.
