Yn fard

d ymysg cantorion a chantores ymysg beirdd, tydi Gwyneth Glyn erioed wedi ffitio’n daclus i mewn i unrhyw focs. Amryddawn yn ôl rhai, gormod-o-blu-yn-ei-het yn ôl eraill, mae’r hogan ar ei hapusaf pan fo hi’n gn

eud mwy nag un peth.

Serch hynny mae ‘na sawl peth nafeistrolodd y Wyneth ifanc a fagwyd yn Llanarmon, Eifionydd; cau careiau esgidiau, sgipio, nofio a reidio beic dwy olwyn i enwi dim ond rhai. Nid felly cyfansoddi, a wnȃi yn naturiol ddigon o’r crud yn ôl ei rhieni a’i hathrawon Ysgol Sul. Profwyd hynny pan aralleiriodd y gȃn ‘Pori mae yr asyn’ yn ddyflwydd oed. Heddiw, yn ogystal ȃ chau ei chareiau ei hun a beicio’n betrus, caiff ei chydnabod fel bardd a chantores-gyfansoddwraig fedrus.

Mae ei dylanwadau cynnar yn cynnwys straeon teuluol ar ochr ei mam a chasgliad recordiau ei thad (Bob Dylan, Fairport Convention, Meic Stevens, Rimsky Korsakov.) Un prynhawn niwlog a hithau yn ei harddegau, cododd hen gitar glasurol lychlyd ei thad a dysgu ei hun i chwarae ‘Blackbird’ gan The Beatles, o’i chof a’i chlust. Hyd y dydd heddiw, hon yw un o’i hoff ganeuon.

A poet among singers, a singer among poets, Gwyneth Glyn defies definition. Polymath by day, Jack-of-all-trades by night, the girl is simply at her happiest doing more than one thing.

Shoe-lacing, skipping, swimming and two-wheel cycling, however,  proved to be insurmountable feats for the young Gwyneth. Not so song writing, which according to her parents and Sunday school teachers, she took to like a rubber duck to bath water, mastering the art of parody at the tender age of twenty-four months. Today, a confident lacer of shoes and tentative cycler of wheels, she is widely-acknowledged as a dextrous poet, writer and singer of songs.

Inspired by her mother’s ancestral stories and her father’s record collection (Bob Dylan, Fairport Convention, Meic Stevens, Rimsky Korsakov) one misty Eifionydd afternoon in her teens she dusted off Dad’s classical guitar and taught herself to play The Beatles’ ‘Blackbird’ by ear and memory, which to this day remains one of her favourite songs.
